Domestic regular human sperm banks have strict standards for screening sperm donors, including height, education, infectious disease screening, genetic disease testing and other basic conditions, but will not provide photos or detailed personal information of sperm donors. The education of sperm donors usually requires college or above. Some sperm banks will indicate the occupation category of sperm donors, but the specific institutions and professional information will not be made public. In terms of appearance selection, sperm banks generally only provide basic feature matching such as blood type, skin color, hair color, etc., and cannot achieve customized screening of appearance.

A handful of overseas reproductive agencies may provide more detailed files on sperm donors, including childhood photos, voice samples, growth history, etc., but such services involve ethical controversies and are expensive. Some countries allow adult children to inquire about the sperm donor's identity information, but such operations are prohibited in China. It should be noted that there is uncertainty about the similarity between the sperm donor’s appearance and the offspring, and social attributes such as academic qualifications are not inherited through genes.

It is recommended that those in need of sperm donors give priority to the health protection services provided by sperm banks, rather than paying too much attention to external conditions. Choosing a regular reproductive institution to conduct complete genetic disease screening and genetic testing is more practical than subjective screening of sperm donor characteristics.
