What does having a son depend on?

The birth of a son mainly depends on the probability of the Y chromosome in the male sperm combining with the female egg, but it is also affected by multiple factors such as genetic factors, the timing of intercourse, and the environment of the female reproductive tract.

1. Genetic factors

There is a family genetic tendency in the proportion of male sperm carrying X or Y chromosomes, and some men are born with more active Y chromosome sperm. If the proportion of male offspring in the paternal family is higher, the probability of giving birth to a boy may increase slightly, but this difference is not absolute.

2. Time to have sex

Y-chromosome sperm swim fast but have a short survival time. Intercourse within 12 hours after ovulation may increase the probability of it combining with the egg. 3. Reproductive tract environment

An alkaline environment is more conducive to the survival of Y chromosome sperm. Female cervical mucus will naturally appear weakly alkaline during ovulation. Excessive use of alkaline flushing solutions may destroy the balance of bacterial flora and increase the risk of infection. It is not recommended to artificially interfere with the pH.

4. Men’s health status

Long-term smoking, high temperature environment or varicocele will reduce sperm quality and lead to a reduction in the number of Y chromosome sperm. Men should avoid sitting for long periods of time and wearing tight pants while preparing for pregnancy. Appropriate supplementation of zinc and vitamin E can help maintain sperm motility.

5. Age factor

The proportion of Y-chromosome sperm in men decreases year by year after the age of 30, and the probability of giving birth to a boy may decrease by the age of 40. As women age, cervical mucus thickens, which may affect sperm passage efficiency, but the effect of age on sex selection is weak.

During pregnancy preparation, it is recommended that both parties maintain a regular schedule. Men should avoid local high temperature in the testicles, and women do not need to deliberately change their diet. The gender of the fetus is determined at the moment of fertilization. Any folk remedies or drug intervention lack scientific basis, and excessive intervention may harm reproductive health.
