The difference between breast hyperplasia and breast cysts

Breast hyperplasia and breast cysts are two common benign breast diseases. The main differences lie in pathological characteristics and clinical manifestations. Breast hyperplasia manifests as excessive proliferation of breast tissue with structural disorder, while breast cysts are fluid cysts formed by expansion of breast ducts. There are differences between the two in causes, symptoms, examination methods and treatment methods.

1. Differences in causes:

Breast hyperplasia is closely related to endocrine disorders. Excessive estrogen levels or relative deficiency of progesterone can lead to abnormal cyclic proliferation and involution of breast tissue. Breast cysts are often caused by fluid retention caused by obstruction of breast ducts. They are often caused by duct degeneration or local inflammation after lactation. Some cysts may be related to hormonal fluctuations, but the direct cause is more likely to be mechanical obstruction.

2. Symptoms:

In ultrasound examination, breast hyperplasia shows disordered gland structure, uneven echo, and patchy hypoechoic areas. Breast cysts appear as round anechoic areas with thin and smooth walls and enhanced echo behind them. In mammography, the hyperplasia appears as an increased density shadow, and the cysts are low-density lesions with clear boundaries, some of which may be accompanied by calcification.

4. Pathological basis:

The pathological manifestations of breast hyperplasia are an increase in the number of acinar and ductal epithelial cells accompanied by interstitial fibrosis, and ductal dilation or microcysts may occur. Breast cysts are closed cystic cavities wrapped by complete epithelial cells, containing clear or turbid fluid without abnormal epithelial cell proliferation.

5. Processing principles:

For breast hyperplasia, the main methods are to adjust lifestyle and relieve symptoms, such as wearing fitted underwear and reducing caffeine intake.
